Guests who come to stay with us at the Big Tin Barn see the amazing space, and when they hear of the time and effort and love we put into creating the barn, they often ask ‘Why?’,
so I thought I would share with you a bit about our story.
Building Accessible Accommodation
When the opportunity arose to convert a large cattle shed on our small working farm near Ilminster, we knew we could do better than build just another holiday let. By creating a fully accessible holiday home, we felt we could do something to help families
Struggling to get away, coping with the mounting pressures of supporting loved ones with disability needs.
Having watched our nephew’s health decline, and knowing how hard it was for the family to spend time away together, we knew first hand of the challenges facing people who care for loved ones with complex disability needs and how planning a holiday can feel like an overwhelming, at times impossible, task.
Our Vision
Our vision for the Big Tin Barn was to enable families and friends to holiday together, providing a space that didn’t compromise on comfort or independence, designed to meet families physical needs aswell as offer a real break form the every day.
The barn was built with spacious rooms designed for wheelchairs, an inclusive and accessible open plan living space, mobility aids, ceiling hoists and profiling beds…Everything you need to enjoy a quality and luxurious holiday together where you can relax, recharge and reconnect in beautiful Somerset.
In the Big Tin Barn we believe we have achieved our goal, set in the heart of our farm where Highland Cattle roam the surrounding meadows, located a stones throw from Dorset, Devon and the Jurassic Coast…We hope to welcome you to The Big Tin Barn for a well-earned break.
